Hinds CC named Hinds Heroes for Spring 2018

RAYMOND – The Spring 2018 group of honorees in the Hinds Heroes employee recognition program have been named. Hinds Heroes are chosen because they represent the college well, provide exceptional customer service to all its customers and consistently promote the Hinds mission of service. Heroes selected receive a lapel pin, a token of appreciation and one free day off work.

In alphabetical order, this semester’s honorees are:

  • Christy Bokros, of Pearl, assistant dean for Allied Health at the Jackson Campus-Nursing/Allied Health Center. Her duties include administrative responsibilities for the division of Allied Health, which includes budget management, accreditation facilitating, annual reporting for career and technical education for the Department of Education and Mississippi Community College Board, inventory and evaluation processes. She has been with Hinds for 19 years.
  • Oscar Branch, of Brandon, instructor for air traffic control at the Rankin Campus. His duties include instructing the course for the Aviation Technology Program and coordinating the curriculum. He has been with Hinds for nine years.
  • Karen Gamble, of Vicksburg, instructor for public speaking and developmental education courses at the Vicksburg-Warren Campus. Her duties include being the lead instructor for public speaking, serving on various committees on campus and lining up speakers for college-sponsored community events. She has been with Hinds full-time for five years and 21 overall, including as an adjunct instructor.
  • Tiffany Jefferson, of Terry, dance director at the Raymond Campus. Her duties include directing the Montage Theatre of Dance program, which involves being artistic director, choreographer and an instructor of the tap, ballet, jazz, hip-hop, and modern, styles of dance. She also instructs dance history, improvisation and composition. She has been at Hinds for 12 years.
  • Martha McInnis, of Raymond, associate chief information officer in the Information Technology Department based at the Raymond Campus. Her duties include managing IT operations that power many of the college’s systems that deliver student and operations success. She has been at Hinds for 27 years.
  • Jovonna Parker, of Ridgeland, assistant director of Counseling and district coordinator of Disability Services, based at the Raymond Campus. Her duties include coordinating district-wide services for students with disabilities, advising with registration and courses, instructing orientation courses and serving as an advisory board member for the college’s Quality Enhancement Plan. She has been at Hinds for 12 years.
  • Russell Shaw, of Raymond, vice president for Business Services, based at the Raymond Campus. His duties including presiding over the Business Services functions of the college, which involves the accounting and accounts receivable and payable functions, Human Resources, Purchasing and Information Technology. He has been at Hinds for 14 years.
  • Kirby Sills, of Ridgeland, director of the Veterinary Technology program on the Raymond Campus. His duties include teaching and directing all aspects of the program, including the curriculum and evaluation processes. He has been at Hinds for nine years.
  • LaCheryl Taylor, of Richland, assistant registrar in the Advancement/Admissions department at the Raymond Campus. Her duties include assisting the registrar troubleshooting and maintaining accurate student records, assisting campus deans in maintaining accurate class rosters, implementing beginning and end-of-term processes, maintaining the system students use to track their education plan, maintaining all aspects of the process of graduation and determining and submitting athletic eligibility and awards. She has been at Hinds for five years.
  • Dennis Thompson, of Madison, lead instructor in the Logistics program at the Jackson Campus-Academic/Technical Center. His duties include managing all aspects of the department. He has been at Hinds full-time for two years and 10 overall, including as an adjunct instructor.
  • Beverly Trimble, of Utica, Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act and Individual Training Account coordinator based at the Utica Campus. Her duties include coordinating services funded by the federal WIOA ITA program for Hinds students, educating students on what the program is and how it helps pay for their education, preparing cost sheets for students in the program and issuing check requests for other colleges served through the program. She has been at Hinds for 13 years.
  • Felicia Williams-Winston, of Brandon, instructor for the online Paralegal Technology program based at the Raymond Campus. Her duties include instructing courses in the program, revising the curriculum when needed, advising and mentoring online students in the program and scheduling online courses. She has been at Hinds for 10 years.

Marilyn Binion-Davis, of Crystal Springs, an early childhood education instructor at the Utica Campus. Her duties include developing student learning outcomes, teaching early childhood classes, NAEYC conference presenter, 2014 faculty writing team member for the state Early Childhood Education curriculum and pageant and coronation director for 36 years. She has been with Hinds for 42 years.

Kay Breland Brown of Brandon, secretary at the Rankin Campus. Her duties include assisting with inventory, budgets and records for secondary programs. She has been with Hinds for 27 years.

Jeremy Cole, of Clinton, an institutional technology specialist at the Raymond Campus. His duties include implementing instructional technology, video production, print and digital design, system administrator for learning management systems. He has been with Hinds for six years.

Reggie Harris, of Bolton, district coordinator of recruiting with Enrollment Services. His duties include recruiting prospective students for classes and providing warm, welcoming experiences to those students and their parents. He has been with Hinds for 26 years.

Jack Hite Jr., of Raymond, a counselor at the Raymond Campus. His duties include counseling and advising, being Title IX deputy coordinator, assistant coach for cheerleading and Hi-Steppers, instructor for first aid, orientation and self-defense, advisor for Phi Theta Kappa and assisting with track, tennis, golf and veterans affairs. He has been with Hinds for 34 years.

Mary Lou Israel, of Byram, administrative assistant in Community Relations at the Raymond Campus. Her duties include organizational tasks within the department under the direction of its vice president. She has been with Hinds for five years.

Joe Johnston, of Vicksburg, a welding instructor at the Vicksburg-Warren Campus. His duties include developing student learning outcomes in the Welding Technology program on campus. He has been with Hinds for 28 years.

Darryl King, of Raymond, a janitorial service employee at the Raymond Campus. His duties include overseeing, Cain-Cochran Hall, one of the busiest buildings on the Raymond Campus. He has been with Hinds for 12 years.

Louanne Langston

Louanne Langston

Louanne Langston, of Raymond, district director of Financial Aid, Student Success and Veterans Services. Her duties include supervising planning for student aid and veterans benefit programs, directs and manages the offices of financial aid, student success and veterans services, administers federal, state and institutional financial aid funds and all appropriate recording of the funds. She has been at Hinds for 22 years.

Hilda Wells, of Jackson, a biology instructor at the Jackson Campus-Academic/Technical Center. Her duties include being chair of sciences and instructing classes in biology and anatomy and physiology. She has been with Hinds for more than 22 years.

Daniece Williams, of Raymond, a biology instructor at the Rankin Campus. Her duties include instructing classes in microbiology and general biology. Next fall, she begins serving as a program chair at the campus. She has been with Hinds for 23 years.

Denise Williams, of Utica, administrative assistant the Utica Campus. Her duties include greeting visitors, answering calls, entering all academic courses for the campus, and other routine duties and practices associated with the academic departments. She has been with Hinds for 10 years.

In alphabetical order, this semester’s honorees are:

Tamisha Armstrong of Vicksburg, a support center manager for the Information Technology Department at the Raymond Campus. Her duties include ensuring all Information Technology needs are met for the campus. She has been with Hinds for four years.

Vanda Brumfield of Raymond, district program director for Dual Enrollment and Special Programs. Her office is on the Raymond Campus. Her duties include responsibility for the policies and procedures of the programs, coordinating with all high schools in the district. Additionally, she is a District Associated Student Government adviser. She has been with Hinds for four years.

Louise Flanagan of Raymond, secretary in the Art, Speech, Theater, Dance, Sociology, Psychology, Criminal Justice, departments. She assists department chairs in the acquisition, procurement, receiving and processing of department needs, processes student and class records and routine clerical tasks. She has been with Hinds for 16 years.

Gary Fox of Jackson, academic dean of the Rankin Campus. He recommends instructors for hiring and schedules classes for instructors and leads academic faculty. He has been with Hinds for 25 years.

Clifford Irving of Raymond, a leader in the Facilities Use Department. He ensures facilities are set up for events in a pleasant and timely manner. He has been with Hinds for 27 years.

Virginia Kitchens of Utica, an administrative assistant and office manager for Economic Development and Training at Eagle Ridge Conference Center on the Raymond Campus. Among other duties, she handles purchasing and receiving office supplies and equipment, coordinating resources for CEU credits and coordinating noncredit online classes. She has been with Hinds for 20 years.

Mary Lee McDaniel of Madison, district director of Counseling at the Raymond Campus. Her duties include teacher, counselor and curriculum specialist for the district. She has been with Hinds for 12 years.

Cynde Mott of Vicksburg, an instructor and department chair for Business Administration at the Vicksburg-Warren Campus. Her duties are instructing academic classes for business and coordinating the curriculum for the department. She has been with Hinds for 24 years.

Gwendolyn Strong of Utica, a processor with the Admissions Department at the Utica Campus. Her duties include receiving incoming phone calls, handling registration, greeting customers and processing mail, transcript requests, withdrawal forms and graduation forms. She has been with Hinds for 46 years.

Andrew Thomas of Vicksburg, a janitor and floor technician at the Vicksburg-Warren Campus. He has been with Hinds for five years.

Jackie Waite of Brandon, department chair for Business/Office Technology. Her duties include leading online instructor and teaching Business Office Technology courses. She has been with Hinds for 27 years.

Andi Winnett of Florence, a coordinator for the first-year Associate Degree Nursing program. Her duties include teaching theory to first- and second-semester nursing students and taking them to clinical training. She has been with Hinds for 10 years.
