Hinds CC, Camp Shelby to sign off on joint project

Hinds Community College and the Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center will have a signing ceremony for a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for a joint Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) project.

The signing will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 27 and includes a demonstration by Hinds students of the UAV program now taught at the college.

The signing is at the Aviation Department hangar at Hinds Community College’s John Bell Williams Airport. The address is 4100 Airport Rd., Bolton, MS 39041, which is off Raymond-Clinton Road.

Media representatives are invited but are asked to rsvp to Cathy Hayden, cchayden@hindscc.edu or 601.857.3322.

The Hinds Community College Aviation Department and Camp Shelby have been working on a mutually beneficial partnership that will capitalize on the growing trend of unmanned aircraft.

Camp Shelby is a National Center of Excellence for training Army Guard and Reserve unmanned aircraft operators from across the country. The Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) curriculum at Hinds CC will develop specific coursework and college credit geared towards military students and their pursuit of a Career/Technical Certificate or Associate of Applied Science in Aviation Technology. Also a partner in the effort, Pearl River Community College will provide academic coursework for military students in Hattiesburg.

This partnership will allow an on-site presence at Camp Shelby and will facilitate the training of Hinds Community College UAS students within their restricted airspace.
